After losing their next 2 the Vikings sat at 6-6., but with Green Bay Packers losing several key players and coach Vince Lombardi the entire Central Division was weakened, and the Vikings would take advantage by winning their final 2 games to win their first Division Title with an 8-6 record. In the Divisional Playoffs at Baltimore the Vikings trailed the Colts 21-0 before a 4th Quarter rally fell short in a 24-14 loss.

    • (WANT LIST) NFL Divisional Playoff vs. Los Angeles Rams, W 23 - 20
In the first playoff game ever at Metropolitan Stadium the Vikings found themselves in a hole trailing the Los Angeles Rams 17-7 at halftime. By the start of the 4th Quarter they had cut the lead to 20-14, where the Vikings defense took over and claimed a 23-20 victory. In Saturday's NFL Western Conference Championship Game at old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, coach Bud Grant's Minnesota Vikings host coach George Allen's Los Angeles Rams. The Vikings have not given up a score in the first quarter all season, but early in the game, Ram quarterback Roman Gabriel rolls out and passes short to Bob Klein for a TD to put Los Angeles in the lead, 7-0. Surprisingly, Viking quarterback Joe Kapp comes out throwing to start the game. The Vikings move to inside the Ram five, from where a 1-yard TD run by Dave Osborn ties the score at 7-7 near the end of the first quarter. The Rams' next drive stalls at the Viking 18, but kicker Bruce Gossett's field goal makes the score 10-7 Rams. Billy Truax's diving catches sustain the Rams' next drive, and his 2-YD TD catch from Gabriel mounts the score to 17-7 Rams by halftime. In the third quarter, a long pass to Gene Washington and a penalty put the ball on the Rams' six. Osborn scores on a run from the two, and the Vikings narrow the score to 17-14. In the 4th quarter, the "Four Norsemen" stop the Rams at the Viking 27, from which Gossett kicks a 27-yd FG to up the score to 20-14 Rams. The Vikings' next drive is capped by Joe Kapp himself, as his two-yd TD run puts the Vikings in the lead for the first time, 21-20! On the Rams' next play, Gabriel is sacked in the end zone for a safety, giving the Vikings a 23-20 lead. The tough Viking defense holds the Rams for the final 8 minutes, and Minnesota wins, 23-20!

The next day in Dallas is cold, wet and rainy as the Cowboys host the Cleveland Browns in the Eastern Conference Championship Game. In the first quarter, Bo Scott skirts left end for a 2-yd TD run, putting the Browns in front, 7-0. In the second quarter, Bill Nelsen's 6-yd TD pass to Milt Morin ups the score to 14-0 Browns. Later, Nelsen moves the Browns to the Dallas 22, and with 28 seconds left in the half, Don Cockroft's FG gives the Browns a 17-0 lead at intermission. Early in the second half, Bo Scott scores again on a 2-yd run to give the Browns a commanding 24-0 lead! After a nice drive, Craig Morton scores on a keeper from 2-yds out, and the Cowboys are on the scoreboard, 24-7. After a long run, Leroy Kelly scores from the one near the beginning of the final quarter, making the score 31-7. The final Cleveland scoring comes when rookie Walt Sumner intercepts a Morton to Walt Garrison pass and takes it 88 yards for a touchdown! Final score: Browns 38, Cowboys 14!

    • (WANT LIST) NFL Championship Game vs. Cleveland Browns, W 27 - 7
This would be a great game to get a hold of. Please let me know if you have any possible ways of acquiring this game! In the final NFL Championship Game before the merger, the Vikings dominated the Cleveland Browns all day before allowing a meaningless TD late in the 4th Quarter in a convincing 27-7 win.

2 Set DVD: THIS IS The complete game, original CBC broadcast with Pat Summerall and Jack Buck! It is in Black & white, but wow. Dave Osborne scores the only TD for the Vikings late in the game, and the Parkettes go nuts. The Viking pre-game starting line-up intro is the highlight of this game.

DVD & VHS: This version is available as Edited Huddles, Filmed in color from the 2nd Deck with the Public Address as audio. Interesting copy, but not the actual full length game broadcast itself. This specially edited video includes the NFL Films Hank Stram rant piece as it is dispersed throughout the edited huddle version. In all a pretty intensive coverage Super Bowl IV.

Leading the way for the Vikings is a ferocious defense known as the Purple People Eaters that holds opponents to just 133 points on the season.

11-3 under Bud Grant. QB was Gary Cuozzo, RB Clint Jones and WR Bob Grim. Led by DT Alan Page who wins the NFL MVP the Vikings Purple people Eaters continue to swallow up opposing offenses allowing just 139 points as the Vikings win their 4th straight Division Title with an 11-3 record. The Defense would need to be strong as the offense led by QB Gary Cuozzo struggled and only managed to score 245 points. However, their struggles would catch up with them in a 20-12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Playoffs at The Met. Following the season the Vikings would reacquire original QB Fran Tarkenton form the New York Giants for a couple of draft picks.

The complete game in great quality on VHS. Alan Page plays a great game, and Fran Tarkenton scores a TD late in the 4th quarter. The Vikings Defense just couldn't stop the silck and quick Miami offensive line from blasting holes for Larry Cszonka and Mercury Morris. Super Bowl VII: Facing the defending Super Bowl Champion Miami Dolphins in Houston the Vikings hopes for a Lombardi Trophy were dashed quickly as the Dolphins jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind the powerful running of Larry Csonka. Trailing 24-0 the Vikings would score on 4-yard Fran Tarkenton bootleg, to avoid the shutout at 24-17.
    • TEAM HIGHLIGHTS/YEARBOOK 1973: "NFC Champions" (Available)
12-2 under Bud Grant. QB was Fran Tarkenton, RB Chuck Foreman and WR John Gilliam. The addition of RB Chick Foreman who wins both Offensive Rookie and Player of the Year honors is just the spark the Vikings offense needs, as the Vikings rebound off a sub par year by winning their first 9 games, on the way to reclaiming the NFC Central with a 12-2 record.

    • Super Bow IX vs. Pittsburgh Steelers at New Orleans, LA, L 6 - 16
A game the Vikings should have won. Turnovers and a great Pittsburgh defense wouldn't allow it. Penn Stateer (Hail to the Lions) Franco Harris gets MVP. Super Bowl IX: In the Super Bowl for the 2nd year in a row, and the 3rd time overall the Vikings were still seeking their first Lombardi Trophy against the Pittsburgh Steelers on a cold and rainy day in New Orleans. The first half was a complete defensive stale mate, as neither offense could muster anything. However, when QB Fran Tarkenton is sacked in the endzone the Steelers go to halftime with a 2-0 lead. The Vikings would make a costly mistake when the 2nd half began by fumbling the kick off which led to a Steelers TD. The Vikings would finally get on the board when Terry Brown fell on a blocked punt in the endzone. However the extra point was missed, and the Vikings still could not get anything going, and would lose on Super Sunday for the 3rd time by a score of 16-6.

      e-bay, July 15-2006
    • NFC Divisional Playoff vs. Washington Redskins, W 35 - 20
Game cuts off with 11 minutes left, Vikings winning big. This was my first ever live Vikings game. In the Divisional Playoffs at Metropolitan Stadium the Vikings offense was firing on all cylinders in a convincing 35-20 victory over the Washington Redskins.
    • NFC Championship Game vs. Los Angeles Rams, W 24 - 13
The Met was the sight again a week later as the Vikings beat the Los Angeles Rams 24-13 in the NFC Championship Game. One of my favorite moments as a Vikings fan, was seeing Chuck Foreman run 60 yards after a catch from Tarkenton to pretty much seal the deal. The tape starts at halftime, showing the first half highlights with Phyllis George, Brent Musberger and Irv Cross. The 2nd Half is about as good as it gets if your are Vikes fan with Summerrall and Brookshire broadcasting the 4th trip to Super Bowl for the Vikings! The Vikings forced a blocked field goal, a blocked punt, and two interceptions en route to the victory over the Rams. On offense, running back Chuck Foreman rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries while also catching 5 passes for 81 yards. In the first quarter, Nate Allen blocked a field goal and Bobby Bryant picked up the ball and returned it 90 yards for a Minnesota touchdown. Then in the second quarter, linebacker Matt Blair recovered a blocked punt to set up Fred Cox's 25-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead before halftime. Then in the third period, Foreman rushed 62 yards to the Los Angeles 2-yard line, and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run two plays later to increase the lead 17-0. The Rams rallied back with two quick touchdowns in the third. After a Dave Elmendorf interception gave the Rams the ball at midfield, Pat Haden hit Harold Jackson for 40 yards, followed by a 10-yard touchdown run by Lawrence McCutcheon. The PAT was blocked, however. On the Vikings next drive, Fred Dryer hit Fran Tarkenton on a sack, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Jack Youngblood at the Viking 11. Two plays later, Haden hit Jackson for a 5-yard touchdown pass. With 2:40 left in the game, Los Angeles advanced to the Minnesota 39-yard line. On fourth down and needing more than a field goal, Haden thought he had Jackson open deep near the goal line, but Bryant intercepted the pass (his second of the game) rather than batting it down. A few plays later, Tarkenton dumped a short pass off to Foreman, which he turned into a 57-yard gain. Backup running back Sammy Johnson scored the clinching touchdown from 12 yards out. Very exciting stuff. Includes post-game interviews with Tarkenton, Bryant, Hilgenberg and Foreman.
    • Super Bowl XI vs Oakland Raiders at Pasadena, CA, L 14 - 3
Damn Raiders and stupid halftime show (which is not on this tape by the way). John Madden wins. GRrrr. Super Bowl XI: In the Super Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 years the aging Vikings new time was growing short as they tried to win their first Lombardi Trophy in 4 trips playing the Oakland Raiders in Pasadena. The Vikings squandered an early opportunity when Brent McClanahan fumbled at the goaline after Fred McNeill blocked and recovered a punt on the Raiders 2-yard line. The fumble would end up becoming a back breaker as the Raiders scored 16 unanswered points in the 2nd Quarter, on the way to a convincing 32-14 victory. Although the Vikings were the first team to play in 4 Super Bowls, the thought that they were never in any of the games while going 0-4 would forever tarnish their reputation.
    • TEAM HIGHLIGHTS/YEARBOOK 1976: "National Conference Champions" (Available)
11-2-1 under Bud Grant. QB was Fran Tarkenton, RB Chuck Foreman and WR Sammie White. The Vikings continued to be the top team in the NFC going unbeaten in heir first 7 games, on the way to easily winning their 8th Divisional Title in 9 years, and 4th in a row.

    • NFC Championship Game at Dallas Cowboys, L 6 - 23
The season would come to a crashing end with a 23-6 loss to the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game at Dallas. The Cowboys were just that much better than the Vikings. Really, the Cowboys had a great squad this season, and the Vikings really missed the injured Fran Tarkenton.

For only the second time in team history (1969 was the first), the Thlins moved the Vikings to another date because of Game "1 of the World Series. The Vikings moved to a Monday night game because of the Twins playing the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series on Oct. 25. D.J. Dozier tied a club record by rushing for three touchdowns from 1, 3 and 5 yards to help defeat the Broncos. Darrin Nelson gained 98 yards on 11 carries, including a 72-yard'run to set up a Dozier TO. But a loss would give the division to the Pack and end the Vikings' season. Meanwhile, Cincinnati also had something to play for. A win would put the Bengals into the playoffs at 9-7, and coming off a 61-7 drubbing of the Houston OilerÍs, the defending AFC champs had the second highest scoring offense in the conference. The game's unlikely star was little-used 'tight end Brent Novoselsky, who had 14 catches and two touchdowns in his six year career with the Vikings. 1)-ailing 2116 in the fourth quarter, the Vikings went for it on fourth-and-goal, and Novoselsky made an over-the-shoulder catch in the corer of the end zone to give the Vikings the lead for good.
    • NFC Divisional Playoff: lost 13 - 41 at San Francisco 49ers
I have the 4th Quarter of this game only. The Vikings score their only TD while Bradshaw and the the other announcer talk about the great Joe Montana and the 49ers. The quality of this qtr is fantastic and gives viewers a good look at Herschel Walker, Rich Gannon, Keith Millard, Anthony Carter, Randle McDaniel, Steve Jordan, Gary Zimmerman, Joey Browner and the Boys. How this era of Vikings didn't advance further in the playoffs is beyond me. avance

10-6 under Jerry Burns QB was Wade Wilson, RB Herschel Walker, WR Anthony Carter. The Vikings get off to a 3-2 start before pulling off the biggest deal in NFL history. The Vikings would acquire RB Herschel Walker from the Dallas Cowboys for 5 players, and several draft picks. The Vikings would win 3 of their first 4 games with Walker, on the way to winning their first NFC Central title in 9 years with a 10-6 record. However, their season would end quickly with a 41-13 loss to the 49ers in San Francisco during the Divisional Playoffs.

6-10 under Jerry Burns QB was Rich Gannon, RB Herschel Walker, WR Anthony Carter. Injuries to the defense and a lackluster season from Herschel Walker contribute to a terrible 1-6 start. The Vikings would bounce back and make a run by winning 5 straight games to even their record at 6-6. However, the Vikings early season struggles would pop up again in a devastating season ending 4-game losing streak that dropped them into last place with a disappointing 6-10 record.

Barry Sanders runs for 220 yards and has 4 touchdowns. This is a one disk game with all the commercials taken out!!! Barry has some good runs in this game. The Minnesota Vikings Show us a Young Rich Gannon, who brings that "gunslinger" mentality to the team. Rich doesn't quite look like the leader he would evolve into as a Raiders Superbowl Quarterback. Rather, you get to see him struggling with his decision making. One guy that really stands out is Terry Allen, man when they toss to him in the backfield on a sweep, you get that "Oh NO!" feeling. He can break it long at any minute. Cris Carter is young here as well.

In addition, this DVD set has a Barry Sanders Highlights feature, from his High School, Collage, and Pro years. It has all of his best runs on this DVD.

The Vikings play mediocre football all season on the way to an 8-8 record, as Herschel Walker struggles again. Walker would be released following the season, failing to reach 1,000 yards rushing in each of his 2 full seasons in Minnesota. The trade would end up being a big bust for the Vikings as the Dallas Cowboys used the draft picks to build a team that won 3 Super Bowls. In addition to the release of Walker, Coach Jerry Burns called it a career after over 20 years with the organization.

In the fourth quarter in Green Bay, Terry Allen took off for 51 yards to set up the touchdown that briefly put the Vikings ahead 20-17, before Tim Irwin handed the Packers wonderful field position with a unnecessary r oughness call. But in the overtime, it got worse. Allen burst up the middle, cut outside for 17 yards, then fumbled the ball away to end a potential game-winning drive at the Green Bay 35. With just under 6 minutes to play in overtime, Allen took a handoff from Rich Gannon, burst up the middle, cut to the outside and ran 45 yards to the Green Bay 11, setting up the game-winning field goal.

    • Week 15 Dallas Cowboys L 37-20
I think this is the game that I won company tickets for, and I sat 9 rows behind the Cowboys on the 50 yard line. The Vikings squandered their best chances early in the game, driving inside the Cowboys 5-yard line of each of their first two possessions, but coming away with only 6 points on a pair of field goals. Minnesota led 6-3 until Irvin caught a 10-yard TD pass from Troy Aikman early in the second quarter to give the Cowboys the lead for good. That capped 5-play, 74-yard drive on which Irvin had the key gain, a 37-yard reception. The Playmaker had a 22-yard catch on Dallas's next series, another 74-yard march that culminated in Smith's 4-yard TD run with 5:15 left in the first half. Daryl "MOOSE" Johnston capped another lengthy drive, a 12-play, 73 yard march with a 10yard TD run midway through the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Towards the end of the game, I was able to yell at Jerry Jones and got him to turn-around and snub his nose at me. Of course the Cowboys whooped the Vikings ass, but the seats were great and how classic was it to be sitting just rows away from the World Champs? Emmitt Smith rushed for 104 yards and a TD, and Michael Irvin caught 8 passes for 125 yards and a score.

The Packers continued to squander their fast start in the 1995 season Sunday with a painful defeat in the stadium that has hosted some of the lowest moments of the Ron Wolf-Mike Holmgren era. In a wild final five minutes that featured a combined four turnovers by both teams, the Packers made the last and costliest mistake: Third-string quarterback T.J. RubleyÕs ill-advised audible and subsequent forced pass that was intercepted with the Packers in near-scoring position and 50 seconds left to play. Minnesota finally ended the chaos with kicker Fuad ReveizÕs 39-yard field goal as time ran out for a 27-24 win. It was the third straight season Reveiz has made a last-second or overtime kick to beat the Packers at the Metrodome.
    • Week 12 New Orleans Saints W, 43-24

n the fifth-highest yardage total by a receiver in NFL history, Rice had a career-high 289 yards and caught three touchdown passes tonight, leading the playoff-bound San Francisco 49ers to a 37-30 victory. It was the sixth straight win for the 49ers, who led 21-0 after one quarter and then had to hold off the Vikings. The win gave the 49ers a first-round playoff bye and they could sew up home-field advantage with a victory at Atlanta in the regular season finale. The 49ers had a bye and the home-field edge during last year's Super Bowl run and clearly want all the advantages again.
    • 1995 Week 17 at Cincinnati Bengals L, 24-27
On Christmas Eve at Riverfront Stadium, the Vikings pull off a colossal choke job and eliminate themselves from the playoffs. The Vikings were eliminated from the playoff chase Sunday while they were in the midst of blowing a 21-point lead and their final game. The Cincinnati Bengals scored 24 consecutive points in the second half, capped by Doug Pelfrey's 51-yard field goal as time ran out, for a 27-24 victory. The loss was almost anticlimactic for Minnesota (8-8), which was eliminated from playoff consideration as it set up for a second-and-goal play from the seven-yard line with 2:19 left. The scoreboard directly overhead flashed the final score that ended Minnesota's season: Chicago 20, Philadelphia 14. A few minutes later, Fuad Reveiz missed a 25-yard field-goal attempt, the final bitter disappointment on a 23-degree afternoon. The Bengals then drove for Pelfrey's kick, allowing Cincinnati to match its biggest comeback in franchise history.

Playing against the Panthers, Johnson's pass was tipped at the line by Greg Kragen, back into his own hands. Johnson scored on a 3-yard reception. Robert Smith scored the winning touchdowln with 3:47 remaining, as the Vikings pulled into a three-way tie for first place in the NFC Central.
    • Week 09 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers W 10-6
Charles Evans scored on a one-yard run and Eddie Murray kicked a 28-yard field goal today as the Minnesota Vikings pulled ahead of Green Bay and Tampa Bay in the NFC Central with a 10-6 victory over the reeling Buccaneers. The victory was the fourth in five games for the Vikings (6-2), ...
    • Week 10 New England Patriots W 23-18
The Minnesota Vikings are a team whose heart is racing, while the New England Patriots at times do not seem to have a pulse. There was no better example of that than late in the third quarter of today's game when the Patriots, in a crucial situation in a critical game, blew a fourth-down play that could change their season. The Vikings eventually won, 23-18, before 62,917 at the Metrodome in a game that showcased how good a coach Minnesota's Dennis Green is. But the Patriots had a shot. They were trailing, 16-3, and facing fourth down and about two feet from the Minnesota 11-yard line. Running back Curtis Martin headed toward the left side of the line, where tackle Bruce Armstrong and guard Max Lane were trying to double-team defensive lineman Derrick Alexander. Alexander split the double team and made the play on Martin, who gained only about a foot. ''I thought he made it,'' said Patriots Coach Pete Carroll, who watched his team fail to score on four attempts from the 1-yard line last week in a loss to Green Bay. ''He looked like he had enough air to make the first down, and it just felt like it was our time to go challenge it and go get it. I don't mind challenging this offense at any time. We believe they're going to make the plays and get it. We didn't do it.'' The Patriots rallied late in the game, but that play effectively ended their hopes. New England, which has lost four of its last five games, again played without passion, and that means another week of slow roasting in the Boston news media. More important, the defending American Football Conference champions will surely begin to have doubts about themselves.
    • Week 11 Chicago Bears W 29-22
In as many ways as the Vikings have found a way to win the close games, the Bears have been equally impressive in finding a way to lose. After the Bears took a 22-21 lead on a Jeff Jaeger field goal with 3:33 to play in the fourth quarter, the Vikings promptly marched down the field with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that consumed all but 54 seconds of the clock as Minnesota held on to win 29-22 before 63,443 at the Metrodome. The Bears defense was so porous on the Vikings' final drive that Leroy Hoard had a 5-yard gap to run through when he scored the go-ahead touchdown onsecond-and-goal from the 1-yard line.
    • Week 13 at New York Jets L, 23-21 (acquired feb 2006)
A dreadful start by the Vikes ends up being a classic. Trailing 23-15, late in the game, the Vikes score with no time left on the clock (I think it was Andrew Jordan). But for some dumb ass reason, on the 2-point conversion attempt, Coach Green calls a running play for Robert Smith, who is promptly stuffed for a loss. The Jets party on down off the field, and the Vikes look like dolts again. The extreme joy amongst the Viking personnel on the field. The hand off to Robert Smith. A hole on the right side suddenly closing. The look on Robert's face as he lay on the turf. The dejection.
    • Week 17 Indianapolis Colts W 39-28
A must win for the Vikings, they come through in the clutch with a big win.
    • NFC Wildcard Game: won 23 - 22 at New York Giants
In the Wild Card Round the Vikings faced another first round exit trailing the Giants late in the 4th Quarter by a score 22-13 on a snowy day at the Meadowlands. Facing 4th and long the Vikings appeared to be giving up when the punted. However, the Vikings defense would get the ball back quickly and would take advantage of a poor punt by the Giants to score on a Johnson to Jake Reed TD pass. With hope still dwindling the Vikings recovered an on-side kick, and would connect on Eddie Murray FG to stun the Giants by a score of 23-22.
    • NFC Divisional Playoff: lost 22 - 38 at San Francisco 49ers
    • TEAM HIGHLIGHTS/YEARBOOK 1997: "Unfinished Business" (Available)
9-7 under Dennis Green QB was Brad Johnson, RB Robert Smith, WR Jake Reed & Cris Carter. With the departure of Warren Moon, Brad Johnson becomes the full time QB and leads the Vikings off to a terrific 8-2 start. However, a 5-game losing streak would put their playoff hopes in jeopardy as rumors of Coach Dennis Green's firing began to fly around. Despite the slump the Vikings would still make the playoffs by beating the Indianapolis Colts in the final game of the season at the Metrodome.

Great game, but Vikings lose a close one. Probably the best game of the year, and Jake Reed makes a wonderful diving catch in the end zone for the Vikings.
    • Week 10 New Orleans Saints W 31-24
Up North at the in-laws for this game, I didn't get the VCR set. Sammy Knight's 91-yard TD interception in the 4th Quarter tied the game, but Leroy Hoard's 2nd TD of the day, a 1-yard plunge saved the day. The Vikes Defense held. Robert Smith scored earlier on a 61-yard TD run and Cris Carter started the day off with a 14-yard TD pass from Brad Johnson in the 1st quarter.

    • NFC Championship Game: lost 27 - 30 vs. Atlanta Falcons
Known as one of the greatest Championship games ever played. In the NFC Championship the Vikings dominated the Atlanta Falcons all game but could not pull away at the Metrodome. Leading 27-20 late in the 4th Quarter the Vikings seemed set to seal the game, but PK Gary Anderson missed his first kick al year, as the Falcons forced overtime. The Vikings lose this game because of injuries to linebackers late in the game, and conservative coaching on offense. Dennis Takes a knee after the Falcons tie it up at 27 apiece. Gary Anderson misses a field goal that would have cinched the game. Interceptions and TD passed are dropped, but the game is dramatic as hell. In OT the Falcons would stun the Vikings 30-27 when Morten Andersen nailed a game winning FG. Poor Vikings fans, another big choke by their team.

Randall Cunningham gets yanked, and Jeff George leads a furious Viking comeback that falls short. Jason Hanson's 48-yard field goal with 12 seconds left, his sixth field goal of the game, capped a wild 25-23 triumph for the Detroit Lions over the suddenly reeling Minnesota Vikings. After an ineffective first half by starter Randall Cunningham, Green turned to Jeff George, who engineered four scoring drives in the second half. The former top overall pick completed 10-of-12 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. George also made effective use of superstar wide receiver Randy Moss, who had four receptions for 86 yards in the second half. Cunningham was 10-of-15 for 78 yards in the opening half, which ended with the Vikings trailing 19-0. The loss dropped the Vikings to 2-4, including 1-3 in the NFC Central Division. It also marked the end of Cunningham's tenure as a starter as Green opted to make the switch to George for Week Seven.

Culpepper would have a stellar season passing for 3,937 yards as Vikings won their first 7 and 11 of their first 13, on the way to an 11-2 start. The Vikings would struggle down the stretch losing their final 3 games to finish with an 11-5 record. The Vikings would lose Home Field, but would still hold on to a precious playoff bye.

5-11 under Dennis Green, Mike Tice QB was Daunte Culpepper, RB Michael Bennett, WR Randy Moss, & Cris Carter. With the bitter aftertaste of their late season failures still in their mouth the Vikings enter training camp on shaky ground. Things would only get worse as tragedy struck during record-breaking heat in Minnesota. Korey Stringer who always seemed to have problems wit heat continued to work out despite feelings of sickness. The heat would get to Stringer as his body temperatures exceed 108 degrees killing the Vikings All-Pro OT. When the season started it seemed the Vikings still had not recovered losing 3 of their first 4 games. The Vikings would continue to struggle through out the season quickly falling out of the playoff race, as the team bickered constantly on the sidelines. Things would only get worse as it seemed every player wanted out of Minnesota. In the midst of a season ending 4-game losing streak Coach Dennis Green is fired prior to the final game, as the Vikings finish with a 5-11 record. Following the season Mike Tice who led the Vikings in the season finale was named the new head coach, as WR Cris Carter retired after the frustrating season.

Gary Anderson steps up and booms a 50-yard Field Goal as time runs out. Cris Carter as a Dolphin is saying there is no way he has this distance, but then Little Gary, nails it. Great Game! Miami was 9-5 late in the seson and were playing for home field advantage in the playoffs. But on a Saturday NFL game, they went to Minnesota and lost in the Metrodome on a field goal in the final moments. Miami then lost in overtime by a game ending field goal at New England and finished 9-7 and without a playoff berth.
    • Week 17 at Detroit Lions W 38-36
The Vikings win their 3rd game in a row 38-36 over the Lions. This was a great high scoring game.
    • TEAM HIGHLIGHTS/YEARBOOK 2002: "Playing For Purple Pride" (Available)
6-10 under Mike Tice QB was Daunte Culpepper, RB Michael Bennett, WR Randy Moss. Mike Tice who coached the Vikings in their final game the previous season would take over on a full time basis and early on he looked over matched as the Vikings dropped their first 4 games blowing leads in the 4th quarter twice. The Vikings struggles would continue through out most of the season as QB Daunte Culpepper struggled all season with turnovers, as the Vikings entered the final 3 weeks of the season with a dreadful 3-10 record. However, the Vikings would finish the season on a strong note winning their final 3 games to post a 6-10 record, along the way the Vikings spoiled the playoff chances of the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins.

    • TEAM HIGHLIGHTS/YEARBOOK 2003: "Down To The Wire" ( Available)
9-7 under Mike Tice QB was Daunte Culpepper, RB Moe Williams, WR Randy Moss The Vikings started the season with a renewed purpose winning their first 6 games which included an impressive 30-25 win in Week 1 over the Green Bay Packers on the road. However the Vikings season hit rough waters as they lost to the New York Giants at home 29-17. The loss to the Giants, who would end up with a league worst 4-12 record would trigger a 4-game losing streak which included losses to the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders who would also post a 4-12 record. After ending their losing streak with 24-14 win at home over the Detroit Lions the Vikings were humiliated by the St. Louis Rams 48-17, as they saw their once seemingly insurmountable lead for first place completely vanish at 7-5. After beating the playoff bound Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 the Vikings suffered nother costly loss as they were stunned by the Chicago Bears 13-10. Despite the struggles all the Vikings needed to do was win their final 2 games to win the NFC North. The Vikings got it started in style with an impressive 45-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at home, which left them needing just to beat the lowly 3-12 Arizona Cardinals in the final game of the season to sew up the division title. After a shaky first half, which saw the Vikings trailing 6-0 the Vikings appeared driving for the playoffs as they seemingly broke the game open with 10 points in the 4th Quarter to hold a 17-6 lead in the final minutes. With 2 minutes left the Cardinals cut the lead to 17-12 missing a 2-point conversion attempt, but with just 1 timeout all the Vikings had to do was recover the onside kick to run out the clock. However the Vikings special teams failed to come up with the ball as the Vikings season stood on the brink. Down the field the Cardinals drove getting to the Vikings 9-yard line. There the Vikings defense toughened up sacking Cardinals QB on two straight plays turning a 2nd and 6 from the 9 to a 4th and 25 form the 28 with just seconds left. On the final snap of the season McNown was not pressured as he threw up a prayer to Nathanial Poole in the endzone some how the ball got past Denard Walker and Brian Russell, as Poole was able to maintain possession before being pushed out of bounds for a touchdown a stunning, that brought instant heartbreak to the Vikings ending their season at 9-7 without the playoffs.

8-8 backed into the Playoffs. Under Mike Tice QB was Daunte Culpepper, RB Michael Bennett, Mewelde Moore, Onterrio Smityh, WR Randy Moss, Nate Burleson, Marcus Robinson, TE Jermaine Wiggins. The Injury-riddled Vikings finish the year losing to the Philadelphia Eagle at Lincoln Financial Field in the 2nd Round of the Playoffs. The Highlight of the year was the teams big 34-17 win at Lambeau Field in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs. Randy Moss Mooned the Packers crowd.

2005 (9-7), Big holes dug early, beating up the weak and poor to get back in the playoff hunt, then too conservative and gutless with the chips on line.
    • PRESEASON: Vikings 27, Chiefs 16
The Vikings look alright in their first public showing at the Metrodome. Ciatric Fason scores a TD, and Mewelde Moore runs strong. (same tape as Twins vs. White Sox Aug. 17, 2005)
    • Week 01 Tampa Bay Buccaneers L 13-24
Vikings o-line stinks up the joint, Daunte looks like Steve Dils and the squad musters up 26 yards of running game. Bleek. On the bright side, Darren Sharper houses an 88-yard TD interception and the new defense flies all over the place in the 2005 opener.
    • Week 02 at Cincinnati Bengals L 8-37
Daunte tops his worst game ever, throwing 5 interceptions. The Vikings Defense gives up 500 plus yards to the Bengals, and 24 points off of turnovers. This is a MUST game to have for any Bengals fan. The purple looks sick, the Bengals look like they will be playing Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl? Tice wears glasses, but he still looks dumb. Grrr.
    • Week 03 New Orleans Saints W 33-16

    • Week 04 at Atlanta Falcons L 30-10
The dazed and confused 2005 injury riddled Vikings are lambs led to slaughter at Atlanta. Daunte looked horrible again, and the 0-line gave up 9 sacks, yes that's Nine sacks. Mike Vick is injured by Erasmus James in the 2nd Qtr, but Atlanta continues the slaughter with Matt Schaub, Algae Crumpler and Warrick Dunn (who suddenly looks like Barry Sanders and Jamaal Anderson). It's the nightmare we knew would happen, and another sad day in Purple-ville. Chris Kluwe continues to punt the ball like Ray Guy, dead spotting a long ball at the 1 yard line. Best play of the game. Troy Williamson scores his 2nd NFL TD catch.
    • Week 05 Vikings Love Boat Cruise at Lake Minnetonka on Bye Week
    • Week 06 at Chicago L 28-3
So, after promising victory Mike Tice lead the hapless Viking to another crushing loss in the 2nd City. Pat Williams plays a good game, and Corey Chavous gets a pick, but other than that, there is NOTHING good about this game at all. Kyle Orton throws 2 TD's for the Bears and Thomas Jones scores 2 TD's on the ground. This is a lowpoint for Viking fans.
    • Week 07 Green Bay W 23-20
Trailing 17-0 at halftime, Daunte Culpepper rallies the Vikings back in the 2nd half and earns NFC Player of the Week honors. A 56-yard FG by Paul Edinger with time running out puts the Vikes at 2-4 and 1 game back in the NFC North.
    • Week 08 at Carolina L 13-38
On the road, in perfect football weather, the Vikings lay another egg. Daunte is knocked out of the game with a season-ending knee injury on a cheap hit by Chris Gamble. Brad Johnson takes over and throws 2 TD passes. The big story is Steve Smith, who torches Fred Smoot for over 200 yards receiving and at least 1 TD. Another PATHETIC, GUTLESS, game from the clueless Vikes.
    • Week 09 Detroit W 27-14
It was like watching the Vikings in 1996-1997. Along comes Brad Johnson to start for the Vikings and he leads the team to a nice victory. Michael Bennett rushes for over 100 yards, and the Defense accounts for 5 sacks and 3 turnovers. It was a nice, solid win over a very injury riddled Lions at home. There is hope in Purpleville
    • Week 10 at NY Giants W 24-21
The Vikes go to 4-5 on the strength of 3 odd touchdowns; a 92 yard interception return by Darren Sharper (his first of 3 picks on the day), a 3rd Qaurter Kickoff return by Koren Robinson, and a 3rd Quarter Punt Return by Mewelde Moore. The Vikings intercept Eli Manning 4 times, but the Giants score a last minute TD to tie the game. Then a last second drive by Brad Johnson, Jermaine Wiggins and the Vikes Offense sets up a game winning Field Goal by Paul Edinger. The Vikes season is back on?
    • Week 11 at Green Bay (MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL) W 20-17
Could this be happening? The Vikings go to 5-5, 3-0 under Brad Johnson, and all of a sudden the team is back in playoff contention. Mewelde Moore gets 100 yards rushing behind a make-shift o-line in the 2nd Half. Again, the difference of the game is a last second field goal by Paul Edinger with no time on the clock.
    • Week 12 Cleveland W 24-12
The Vikings defense is welcomed home by the crowd, and delivers 5 turnovers. Marcus Robinson catches 3 TD passes from Brad Johnson. The "Rings on the team" all show up. Brad leads the offense, Travis Taylor catches some critical first downs, Jermaine Wiggins delivers is conistent game, and Darren Sharper shows how it is done on defense with 2 more interceptions.
    • Week 13 at Detroit W 21-16
Brad Johnson hits Koren Robinson on beauty pass right out of the gates and the Vikings hold on to a close one. Cory Chavous picks off the Jeff Garcia bomb to end the game. Lions fans want Matt Millen fired!
    • Week 14 St. Louis W 27-14
The Vikings take advantage Harvard QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and win. The Vikings forced six turnovers and held Steven Jackson to 67 yards rushing in their sixth straight victory. With Chicago (9-4) losing at Pittsburgh, the Vikings (8-5) pulled within one game of the division lead in a season that appeared lost after a 2-5 start. Brian Williams led the way with two interceptions as the Vikings confused and battered rookie quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was 26-of-44 for 235 yards and five interceptions for the fading Rams Koren Robinson, Michael Bennett and Ciatrick Fason all scored touchdowns on the ground for the Vikings.
    • Week 15 Pittsburgh L 3-18
Back to reality. The Vikings cannot capitalize on turnovers and blow 4 chances in the red zone. Streak leader Brad Johnson shows he is human, fumbles and picks give the Steelers an easy "slow-death" victory without much of a running game from Jerome Bettis. Big Ben Roethlisberger scores a TD with his injured thumb, and penalties kill the Vikes.
    • Week 16 at Baltimore L, 30-23 (ESPN SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL)
Travis Taylor, and Jermaine Wiggins score on TD passes from Brad Johnson. The story of this game was the play of Ravens QB Kyle Boller, who made big 3rd down play after big 3rd down play in the 2nd half. Playing for their playoff lives, the Vikings were out coached by Brain Billick who, knowing the Vikings were content on stopping the run, allowed Kyle Boller to pass into Minnesota blitzes. The Ravens made the plays, and the Vikings got what they deserved- an exit out of the playoffs. The Vikings offense did all it could, but a gutless decision to punt on 4th and 1, and a late turnover cost the Vikings this game.
    • Week 17 Chicago W, 34-10
The Vikings hold down the fort and defend the name of Mike Tice in his last game as head coach. In reality, the Bears played their Junior Varsity and the Vikings kept the throttle on high to take the much deserved win. After the game, it was all smiles, but Tice would soon be let go, and a new era of Vikings would soon begin.

2006 (6-10) The Year of Vanilla Ice. THUD. Brad Childress smothered his little toy all season, protected it too much, and isolated a very hopeful fan-base. Cripes sake, even Bud Grant threw in some razzle-dazzle every now and then. The Defense was kick ass against the run, so much that New England didn't even bother to try. (Is it just me, or does anybody else want to see that Head Coach of the Patriots fall flat on his smug little face?)

    • Week 03 Sunday September 24 CHICAGO BEARS L, 16-19 Noon FOX
Field Pass, this game was the season changer for the Vikings. Chester Taylor fumbles late in the game, and the Bears win on TD pass from stiff QB (Rex Grossman) to stiff WR (Rashied Davies). Are you kidding me? The Bears ARE who we Thought they were, and we let them get away. They will not be crowned.
    • Week 04 Sunday October 1 at Buffalo Bills L, 12-17 Noon FOX
The Bills defense carried the day as they recorded a pair of takeaways and sent the Vikings offense three-and-out six times on the day in a 17-12 Buffalo win. The offense was way too conservative. The Vikings played their way out of a blowout. This game showed us who Brian Childress realy was.Down by five, the Vikings got one last ditch effort with 1:47 to play as they got the ball on their own 17-yard line with 1:39 to play, after Buffalo's offense could manage only one first down in an unsuccessful effort to kill the clock. But Minnesota ran out of time allowing the Bills to escape with their second win of the season.
    • Week 05 Sunday October 8 DETROIT LIONS W, 26-17 Noon FOX
Good Ol Lions. The Detroit Lions walked into the fourth quarter of Sunday's contest at Minnesota with a 17-3 lead, only to watch as the Vikings responded with 23 unanswered points to send Detroit to yet another defeat. The offense sure wasn't having much luck, so the defense took over, delivering an effort that would make the old Purple People Eaters proud. The Vikings scored two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rescue the struggling offense, turning a 17-3 deficit into a 26-17 victory.
    • Week 06 Sunday October 15 BYE
    • Week 07 Sunday October 22 at Seattle Seahawks W, 31-133:15 p.m. FOX
By far, the best of the season. Chester Taylor sets a Viking record for longest TD run. Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson figured out a way to take the crowd and the Seahawks out of it on the same play.Henderson rolled into Matt Hasselbeck's right leg early in the second half of a tie game, sending the Pro Bowl quarterback to the locker room for the remainder of Sunday with a sprained knee. Then the Vikings' Chester Taylor romped for most of his career-high 169 yards on a pivotal, 95-yard run - the longest in Minnesota history - as the Vikings stunned the battered Seahawks 31-13 on Sunday to end Seattle's team-record 12-game home winning streak. Qwest Field was so quiet, you could hear another Seahawks star fall.
    • Week 08 Monday October 30 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, L 7-31 7:30 p.m. ESPN
A Monday Night debacle before Halloween. Tom Brady beat Minnesota's relentless rushing defense by simply throwing over it for 372 yards and touchdowns to four different receivers, and the Patriots pounded the Vikings 31-7 on Monday night to win their sixth straight regular-season road game. New England's defense had four sacks and four interceptions, forcing Brad Johnson into a handful of uncharacteristic mistakes.
    • Week 09 Sunday November 5 at San Francisco 49ers, L, 3-9 3:05 p.m. FOX
Would of, could of, should of, if. To the surprise of everybody who wasn't wearing the 49ers' throwback uniforms Sunday, a much-maligned defense proved capable. Joe Nedney kicked his third field goal with 7:15 to play, and San Francisco shut out the Minnesota Vikings in the final three quarters of a 9-3 victory. San Francisco managed just 133 total yards with its own miserable offense, but got cohesive play from the same unit that gave up 41 points by halftime last week at Chicago. The Niners simplified their game plan and hung on, stopping Minnesota's final drive with 1:04 left.
    • Week 10 Sunday November 12 GREEN BAY PACKERS L, 17-23 Noon FOX
Vikings 2006: FRAUD. Exposed for the pretenders they were. Chester Taylor fumbles. Minnesota recovers, Billy McMullen returns 0 yards for a touchdown. Green Bay was going to beat Minnesota, Brett Favre was going to have to throw the ball to his own team, not the other guys. Favre threw two touchdown passes without a turnover and Donald Driver had a career-high 191 yards receiving in a 23-17 victory over the Vikings on Sunday. The Packers (4-5), who have won three of their last four games, were boosted by a strong pass rush and even better pass protection. Favre completed 24 of 42 passes for 347 yards and no interceptions.Brad Johnson went 18-for-30 for 257 yards, one touchdown and two turnovers for Minnesota (4-5), which lost its third straight game after again struggling in several areas. Dave Rayner made three field goals, besting former Packers kicker Ryan Longwell, who only got a chance to kick one, a 34-yarder with 58 seconds left. After one failed possession in the fourth quarter, Childress screamed at guard Steve Hutchinson and tackle Bryant McKinnie, the prized, multimillion-dollar left side of the line. Minnesota scored on a 40-yard reception by a wide-open McMullen and after forcing a three-and-out went ahead 14-10 by covering 82 yards on the next possession. The Vikings even scored in the red zone, where a 4-for-18 touchdown conversion rate was the worst in the league coming into the league.
    • Week 11 Sunday November 19 at Miami Dolphins L, 20-24- Noon FOX
Jason Taylor shows why he was the best defensive player in the NFL in 2006. Jason Taylor zigzagged through the open field, waved the ball in his left hand and leaped across the goal line to finish with a flourish. Looking more like breakaway runners than defensive players, Taylor and cornerback Renaldo Hill were the best ball carriers the Miami Dolphins had Sunday. Taylor and Hill returned turnovers for touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and Miami overcame another sputtering offensive performance to beat the Minnesota Vikings 24-20. The Vikings, ranked first in the NFL in run defense, lost despite setting a team record by limiting the Dolphins to minus 3 yards rushing in 14 carries. Running back Ronnie Brown netted 2 yards in 12 attempts. The last time a team won with such a poor rushing total was on Oct. 29, 1961, when Philadelphia beat Washington 27-24 with minus 12 yards.
    • Week 12 Sunday November 26 ARIZONA CARDINALS W, 31-26 Noon FOX
Almost another NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Show. The Cardinals (2-9) got a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by J.J. Arrington on the opening play of the game and a 99-yard fumble return for a score by Adrian Wilson in the fourth, but couldn't overcome the turnovers, penalties and a suddenly productive Vikings (5-6) offense. Matt Leinart threw for a career-high 405 yards and two interceptions, but managed only one TD - a 9-yard pass to Anquan Boldin with 39 seconds to play - that came too little, too late. The Cardinals made things interesting after Leinart hit Boldin for the late score. Darryl Blackstock recovered the ensuing onside kick, but Leinart's desperation heave into the end zone as time expired was intercepted by Dwight Smith to seal the win. All Green could do was stare blankly at the field as he watched his young team give away another game. Larry Fitzgerald Jr., who starred at Holy Angels High School in Richfield, Minn., and was a Vikings ball boy under Green, had 11 catches for 172 yards and Boldin had nine catches for 140 yards for the Cardinals.
    • Week 13 Sunday December 3 at Chicago Bears L, 23-13 Noon FOX
The Devin Hester show. Hester tied an NFL record with his fourth touchdown return, and Manning ran an interception back 54 yards for the Bears (10-2), who lead the NFC by two games.Chicago overcame another shaky performance by quarterback Rex Grossman. The Vikings couldn't overcome Brad Johnson's, however. The veteran was 11-of-26 with 73 yards and four interceptions before being lifted for Brooks Bollinger late in the third quarter, and his last two passes ended in the Bears' hands. Chester Taylor ran for 99 yards before bruising his ribs in the third quarter and eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for Minnesota (5-7). He returned to the game, but did not carry the ball again. Bollinger was 7-of-9 for 70 yards, but hurt his left shoulder on a sack by Adewale Ogunleye late in the game. Rookie Tarvaris Jackson replaced him and was 3-for-4 for 35 yards.
    • Week 14 Sunday December 10 at Detroit Lions W, 30-30Noon FOX
Artose Pinner enjoyed the best game of his career against the team that cut him three months ago. Pinner had career highs with 125 yards rushing and three touchdowns Sunday to lift Minnesota to a 30-20 win over the Detroit Lions. The Lions (2-11), meanwhile, have lost five straight and the only consolation for the hapless franchise is it can't break the record for the most losses in a six-season span. Detroit, an NFL-worst 23-70 since 2001, would fall one setback short of the 74 losses Tampa Bay had from 1983-88 if its closes the season without a win. Pinner, among Detroit's final cuts before the season, replaced injured Chester Taylor (ribs) and played ahead of backups expected to take a larger role. So long Kevin Jones, hello victory. A goal line stand, and the winning streak over Motor kitties continues

PATHETIC. Just three first downs all game with Travaris throwing to stone-hands all day. Fred Smoot houses a TD late in the game, picking off Bret Favre. The best part of the game, when Smoot got doused with beer from cheeseheads for trying to Lambeau Leap. Good Times.
    • Week 17 Sunday December 31 ST. LOUIS RAMS L, 42-21 Noon FOX
Steven Jackson rushed for 142 yards and scored four touchdowns as St. Louis routed Minnesota, 41-21, in the season finale for both clubs at the Metrodome. The New York Giants' 34-28 win over the Washington Redskins on Saturday night eliminated St. Louis from the playoff race but it certainly didn't stop the Rams from toying with a Vikings team that seemingly gave up on rookie head coach Brad Childress. Jackson ran for three scores and also took a shovel pass in for the Rams (8-8), who finished their season with three consecutive wins. Marc Bulger completed 19-of-30 passes for 248 yards and a TD for St. Louis, while Torry Holt had nine receptions for 90 yards. Rookie Tarvaris Jackson connected on 20-of-34 passes for 213 yards with a TD and two interceptions in his second career start for the disappointing Vikings (6-10), who lost eight of 10 games to end the season. He also added 34 yards on the ground and another TD.

2007 (8-8). Childress Second Year shows mediocre improvement with flashes of brilliance, stupidity and same as it ever was. Adrian Peterson is touted as the Purple Jesus (although I will bever write that blashemous nickname again) and sets NFL records. A 34-0 loss at Green Bay was the lowpoint, followed by a five game winning streak, and then the traditional "thud" and egg lay at the dome with a 32-21 loss at home with playoffs on the line. This year was "So Viking"
    • Preseason Game 1 ST. LOUIS RAMS, L 10-13 KSTP
Dontarrious Thomas had two of Minnesota's three interceptions. He returned the second one 82 yards early in the third quarter for the Vikings' lone touchdown. But Ryan Longwell pulled a 42-yard field goal wide left, fumbling a chance to give Minnesota the lead at the 3-minute mark. Longwell didn't miss a kick under 46 yards all last season. Jackson was sharp with 83 yards on 8-for-11 passing and 25 yards on two scrambles for the Vikings, an encouraging sign for a team that topped 21 points only four times last year during a 6-10 season. Even Troy Williamson, trying to regain some trust after a season filled with dropped balls, caught three of Jackson's passes for 32 yards.

A week after not attempting a pass, Chad Pennington had two ill-advised throws returned for touchdowns in a 37-20 loss to the Vikings. Darren Sharper's 40-yard return came on Pennington's third pass, and Chad Greenway later brought one back 16 yards for the Vikings. Rookie defensive end Brian Robison returned a fumble for a touchdown, the Vikings' third off a turnover. Adrian Peterson also had a big game for Minnesota, gaining 70 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

After Jackson played the first series, Bollinger came in and finished the first half. He helped turn two Dallas fumbles into touchdowns, including a 4-yard scoring pass to Sidney Rice that gave the Vikings a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.Ryan Longwell kicked three field goals for the Vikings

Following their easy home win over the Falcons, the Vikings flew to Ford Field for a Week 2 divisional match-up with the Detroit Lions. At stake was first place in the NFC North. After a scoreless first quarter, Minnesota trailed early as Lions QB Jon Kitna completed a 9-yard TD pass to WR Roy Williams. The Vikings would tie the game with QB Tarvaris Jackson getting a 1-yard TD run. However, Detroit retook the lead with kicker Jason Hanson's 30-yard field goal. In the third quarter, the Lions increased their lead with QB J. T. O'Sullivan's 7-yard TD pass to WR Calvin Johnson. Fortunately, Minnesota would tie the game with kicker Ryan Longwell's 32-yard field goal and DE Ray Edwards' 9-yard fumble return for a touchdown. After both teams failed to score in the fourth quarter, the Vikings would get the ball to begin overtime. However, nine plays into their drive, back-up QB Brooks Bollinger would fumble the ball and Detroit would recover it (which would be the game's 10th overall turnover). In the end, the Lions took the fumble recovery and turn it into Hanson's game-winning 37-yard field goal.
    • Week 3 Sunday September 23 at Kansas City Chiefs, L 10-13Noon (ROADTRIP 2007).
Following their divisional road loss to the Lions, the Vikings flew to Arrowhead Stadium for an interconference duel with the Kansas City Chiefs. In the second quarter, Minnesota increased its lead with kicer Ryan Longwell getting a 22-yard field goal. The Chiefs would end the half with kicker Dave Rayner getting a 39-yard field goal. • Week 4 Sunday September 30 GREEN BAY PACKERS, L, 16-23
Trying to snap a two-game skid, the Vikings went home, donned their throwback uniforms, and prepared for an NFC North duel with the Green Bay Packers. With QB Tarvaris Jackson recovering from injuries, QB Kelly Holcomb would get the start for the game. In the first quarter, the Vikes trailed early as QB Brett Favre threw career TD pass #421 to WR Greg Jennings on a 16-yard pass, surpassing Dan Marino for the most career touchdown passes by a quarterback. After Favre was honored for his accomplishment, Minnesota drew close with kicker Ryan Longwell getting a 44-yard and 35-yard field goal. Green Bay would end the half with kicker Mason Crosby getting a 28-yard field goal. In the third quarter, Minnesota continued to struggle as Crosby gave the Packers a 44-yard field goal. The Vikings would respond with Longwell kicking a 48-yard field goal. In the fourth quarter, the Vikes' deficit increased with Crosby nailing a 33-yard field goal, along with Favre completing TD pass #422 to WR James Jones on a 33-yard TD pass. Minnesota tried to rebound with Holcomb completing a 15-yard TD pass to rookie WR Sidney Rice, along with recovering a Green Bay fumble. Unfortunately, the game ended sour for the Vikes as Holcomb was intercepted by Atari Bigby. One positive from the game was that rookie RB Adrian Peterson became the first Vikings rookie RB since Chuck Foreman to get a 100-yard rushing game for his first three games as a starter, as he ran 12 times for 112 yards on the day. With the loss, the Vikings entered their bye week at 1-3.

    • Week 7 Sunday October 21 at Dallas Cowboys, L 21-24
After scoring a first-quarter touchdown for the first time all season, Dallas had a chance to break things open in the second. Instead, Marion Barber ran backward after gaining a first down, leading to a punt; Tony Romo and Patrick Crayton lost fumbles (both returned for TDs, although the first was called back because of a penalty) and rookie Nick Folk shanked a field goal for the first time. The result: Minnesota led 14-7 at halftime despite trailing. Strangely, Minnesota coach Brad Childress opted not to try swarming Romo and not to feature rookie Adrian Peterson, even though he came in as the NFL's leading rusher, Peterson ran four times for 27 yards on the opening series, including a 20-yard touchdown, but got only eight more carries. He fumbled on his last one, leading to the field goal that sealed Dallas' victory. Travaris Jackson stunk up the joint.

The play capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive that chewed five minutes off the clock and put Green Bay up 27-0.Packers RB Ryan Grant picked up 119 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, making him the first running back to pick up 100 yards against the Vikings' second-ranked rush defense all season. Minnesota didn't convert a third- or fourth-down attempt the entire game, and it didn't complete a pass to a receiver until deep into the third quarter. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson left the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury.
    • Week 11Sunday November 18 Oakland Raiders, W 29-22
Chester Taylor surged into the end zone on the first play of the fourth quarter, scoring his third touchdown of the game to put the Vikings ahead 29-19. Tarvaris Jackson's rebound from a disastrous start came too little, too late for the Vikings (8-7), who could have clinched a playoff berth with a win. They failed. The Redskins clearly wanted this game more than the Vikings did. They jumped out to a 22-0 lead and cruised to victory. Jackson played his second bad game in a row, and lo and behold the Redskins capitalized on another night of miscues by the Vikings. YUCK!
    • Week 17 Sunday December 30 at Denver Broncos, L 22-19 (O.T.)

The Division Champions without a Quarterback?
All the elements were place for a great year, running game, great defense and experience at coaching. Going into the season everyone seemed to know the achilles heel was QB, and the Vikes even flirted with Brett Favre to solve the issue. Without a true field general or reliable gun-slinger the Vikings struggled early against quality teams, but recovered enough to post a 10-6 record and host a playoff game as division champs. There was improvement, but no cigar at the end of season. We wait for 2009?

Turns out No. 12 can do it, too. September 14 Metrodome CBS 12 p.m. Adam Vinatieri made a 47-yard field goal with three seconds left, bringing the Colts back froma 15-0 deficit. The Indianapolis Colts were overwhelmed at the line of scrimmage again, and the swarming Minnesota defense frequently pounded Peyton Manning into the Metrodome turf. But the Colts put the Manning touch on another impressive rally, thanks to a handful of clutch completions near the end by their stalwart quarterback, and reminded the Vikings it's just not possible to win without throwing the ball. Manning passed for 311 yards. The Vikings (0-2) wasted more dominant defense, done in by a handful of critical lapses and repeated failure to figure out that pesky old forward pass. Adrian Peterson rushed for 118 of his 160 yards in the first half.

September 21 Metrodome FOX 12 p.m. Gus Frerotte gave a wobbly passing attack some life with the kind of calm, poised performance his coach had in mind when he made the switch. Frerotte couldn't have helped save Minnesota's season, however, without another productive performance by that relentless defense. Antoine Winfield's sack of Jake Delhomme and subsequent 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown right before halftime spurred the Vikings to a 20-10 victory over Carolina on Sunday to hand the Panthers their first defeat.

The Saints' second failed field goal attempt of the game -- the first was blocked and returned 59 yards for a touchdown -- allowed the Vikings to drive for Ryan Longwell's winning 30-yard field goal with 13 seconds left.
    • Week 6 Team, Detroit Lions W 12-10
October 12 Metrodome FOX 12 p.m. Minnesota Vikings fans want a new coach. A questionable pass interference penalty on Lee Bodden put Minnesota's woeful offense in position for a 26-yard field goal by Ryan Longwell with nine seconds left that lifted the Vikings to a 12-10 victory. The lack of success offensively against a team that had allowed 36.7 points a game led thousands of Metrodome fans to chant "Fire Childress!" throughout the second half.

Mason Crosby's 52-yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds was just wide, helping the Vikings (5-4) pull into a first-place.

Minnesota (6-5) made the early lead stand, thanks to a stifling defense that harassed quarterback David Garrard, blanketed receivers and caused the Jaguars to abandon the running game. Jacksonville (4-7) provided plenty of help, too. The Jaguars had five turnovers -- three fumbles and two interceptions -- were sacked four times, missed two field goals and flagged for eight penalties.

The run-stuffing linemen held Kevin Smith to 63 yards and freed up Allen to get two sacks, giving him 12 this season to break a single-season record for the Vikings. They stuffed Culpepper on a fourth-and-1 at their 6 late in the first half.
    • Week 15 Team, at Arizona Cardinals W, 35-14

Tarvaris Jackson played very well in his second straight start for the Vikings (9-6), who could have clinched their first division title since 2000. Jackson threw for 233 yards and two scores and rushed for 76 yards, but also had a fumble at the Atlanta 16. Minnesota fumbled the ball seven times and lost four of them.
    • Week 17 Team, New York Giants W, 20-19
December 28 Metrodome FOX 12 p.m. With plenty of practice in dealing with drama, the Vikings rallied past the resting Giants for a 20-19 victory Sunday afternoon to qualify for the postseason for the first time in four years. Ryan Longwell's 50-yard field goal as time expired gave the Vikings their first division title since 2000. Jackson threw his first interception in 13 quarters since taking over for Gus Frerotte, a zinger into the end zone that James Butler grabbed and returned to near midfield. John Carney's fourth field goal of the game stretched the Giants' lead to 19-10 early in the fourth, but his attempt from 48 yards was wide right with 3:17 left. The Vikings then crawled through a frantic, unorganized final drive and got just close enough for Longwell to kick the winner.
    • NFC Wildcard Game vs Philadelphai Eagles L, 14-26
January 4, 2009 Metrodome FOX 3:30 p.m. Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel's 44-yard interception return of Tarvaris Jackson's errant pass in the second quarter set a tone for the kind of game most Vikings fans feared from the unpolished quarterback.Jackson, who lost his job in September but got it back when Gus Frerotte was hurt, went 15-of-35 passing for 164 yards. Adrian Peterson's two touchdown runs weren't nearly enough for NFC North champion Minnesota, which will head to yet another offseason with burning questions about its quarterbacks.
