    Non-Viking NFL Game

    Super Bowls

Super Bowl III 1969 New York Jets, 16 vs. Baltimore Colts, 7
Three days before the 1969 Super Bowl, incomparable Joe Namath appeared before the Miami Touchdown Club, tossed a few footballs into the audience, jested briefly and then, growing serious, announced: "The Jets will win on Sunday, I guarantee it." The AFL comes of age!!!!!!! Broadway Joe and his famous guarantee. One of the all-time great classics from any sport. Joe Namath, Matt Snell, Emerson Boozer, George Sauer and Don Maynard vs the powerful Colts coached by Don Shula. Earl Morrall, Tom Matte, John Mackey and Bubba Smith, even Johnny U makes an appearance late in the game!!!!!! Magnificent contest!!!!!!!!!! (ebay 08-11-05)

Super Bowl IV 1970 Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs
THIS IS The complete game, original CBC broadcast with Pat Summerall and Jack Buck! It's amazing how I acquired this copy! It is in Black & white, but wow.

Super Bowl VII 1973: Miami Dolphins 14 vs. Washington Redskins 7
The Perfect Ending, January 14, 1973. When the National Broadcasting Company television cameras flashed on at 12:30 p.m. -- commercials went for $200,000 a minute -- Memorial Coliseum showed 8,472 vacant seats among its 90,182. The no-shows, it was contended widely, resulted from the lifting of the TV blackout in the L.A. area. A perfect end to a perfect season. Shula's disciplined warriors vs George Allen's Over the Hill Gang. Bob Griese qbs the 'Fins along w/ Csonka, Kiick, Paul Warfield, Buonoconti, Jake Scott and Dick Anderson vs Billy Kilmer, Larry Brown, Diron Talbert, Brundage, Harold McKlinton, and Charley Taylor. Near perfect football from two extraordinary teams!(ebay 08-11-05)

Super Bowl VIII 1974 Miami Dolphins 24, Minnesota Vikings 7

Super Bowl IX 1975 Pittsburgh Steelers 16, Minnesota Vikinngs 6

Super Bowl XI 1977 Oakland Raiders 32, Minnesota Vikings 14,

Super Bowl XVI 1982 San Francisco 49ers 26, Cincinnati Bengals, 21
49ers Strike It Rich, January 24, 1982, Joe Montana vs. Ken Anderson Super Bowl XVI was played to an improbable script. Three turnovers cost the Bengals 17 points in a 20-point first half that set a Super Bowl record; the 49ers staged a dramatic goal line stand that might have saved the game, and Ray Wersching kicked a record-tying four field goals. The location of the game also set a precedent. After 15 games in warm weather climates, the 1982 championship contest was played in the Pontiac (Mich.) Silverdome, 25 miles from Detroit. While surrounding areas shivered in below zero chill factors, 81,270 enjoyed 72-degree comfort in the huge, 5-year-old stadium.

Super Bowl XX 1986 Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots, 10
I was at this game in New Orleans, sat way up in the upper deck and watched the Bears just DESTROY the patsies. And what about those wonderful nicknames and all those folk-hero figures, such as William (The Refrigerator) Perry, Walter (Sweetness) Payton, defensive tackle Dan Hampton and quarterback Jim McMahon, the closest the NFL has to a true punk rocker? With one mighty Super Bowl victory, all the pent-up emotion of both a driven team and a snake-bitten city was uncorked. Nothing about the Bears seemed normal. Their coach, Mike Ditka, wore a tie on the sidelines so he would curb a temper that once provoked him to break his hand punching a blackboard. Their defensive coach, Buddy Ryan, almost matter-of-factly predicted what his vaunted "46" defense would do to opposing offenses -- and then usually was shockingly accurate.

Super Bowl XXI 1987 N.Y. Giants, 39 Denver Broncos, 20
A Giant Step Forward, January 25, 1987, Phil Simms vs. John Elway. After spending the first eight years of his career shaded by the clouds of injury, inconsistency, anonymity and controversy, Phil Simms certainly had earned his day in the bright Southern California sun that towered above Super Bowl XXI. Lawrence Taylor, Mark Bavaro...

Super Bowl XXIII 1989 San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals, 16
    Joe Montana drove the 49ers

Super Bowl XXV 1991 N.Y. Giants 20, Buffalo Bills, 19
One of the greatest Super Bowl's ever played. A missed field goal on the last play of the game allows the Giants to hang on for the win.

Super Bowl XXVI 1992 Washington Redskins 37, Buffalo Bills, 24
Played in Minnesota at the Metrodome, watch Mark Rypien lead the Skins to victory

Super Bowl XXXII 1997 Denver Broncos vs. Green Bay Packers
Super Bowl 32 Broncos - Packers VHS - Brett Favre vs John Elway. The Broncos win their first Super Bowl, defeating the defending champions. Cheeseheads find out what is like to actually lose the big one.

Super Bowl XXXXIV 2000 St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee Titans, 16
A good as it's ever been. It was a thing of beauty, this game between these two NFL upstarts. Put both the Titans and Rams into a Super Bowl for the first time, and they merely produce a matchup for the ages, a tingling affair decided by what, 6 inches of gleaming artificial turf? For this 34th Super Bowl, concluded only when Titans receiver Kevin Dyson was smacked down by Rams linebacker Mike Jones a tantalizing arm's length from the end zone as time expired, puts to shame most of those games between members of the old NFL establishment, which produced dynasties and lopsided championship contests that sent us all home wondering why we wasted our time watching in the first place. For their 23-16 victory, the Rams got their first NFL title since 1951, when they were located in Los Angeles, and St. Louis finally got an NFL championship. We got as much as we could have hoped for from a contest of this magnitude.

Super Bowl XXXVI 2002 New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 17
Vinatieri's 48-yard FG caps Patriots' upset, February 3, 2002 NEW ORLEANS -- The New England Patriots stepped onto the Louisiana Superdome turf as one, opting for no pregame introductions after the St. Louis Rams took the field for Super Bowl XXXVI. The unexpected change made a prophetic statement: Win or lose, they were going to do so as a team. MVP Tom Brady, who showed no ill affects from his sprained left ankle, drove the Patriots 53 yards in nine plays against a beignet-soft Rams prevent defense to set up Vinatieri for a 48-yard field goal attempt. By the time Vinatieri's kick sailed through the uprights, time had expired and the 14-point underdog Patriots had slayed the NFL's version of Goliath for their first Super Bowl title.

Super Bowl XXXVII 2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48, vs. Oakland Raiders 21
Buccaneers intercept Raiders, win Super Bowl XXXVII, January 26, 2003, SAN DIEGO -- The Super Bowl was a nightmare by halftime for the Oakland Raiders -- and then Coach Chucky's horror show got even worse. Defense did 'em in, baby! And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't need much more. Coach Jon Gruden and his Bucs won their first NFL championship, routing the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in the first matchup of best offense vs. best defense. The Tampa Bay defense won by a mile, returning three of a record five interceptions for touchdowns and shutting down any hope the Raiders had of a late comeback. It was especially sweet for the former NFL laughingstock, a team that lost its first 26 games after it started playing in 1976 in those garish orange uniforms.

Super Bowl XXXVIII 2004 New England Patriots 32, vs. Carolina Panthers 29
Patriots overcome Carolina for second title in 3 years. February 1, 2004 HOUSTON -- Back and forth it went. The Patriots were ahead. The Panthers were ahead. The Patriots were ahead, then the Panthers tied it. And then came the most reliable foot in football. Adam Vinatieri won the Super Bowl for New England for the second time in three years, kicking a 41-yard field goal with 4 seconds left to beat Carolina 32-29 on Sunday night. There were a record 37 points scored in the fourth quarter alone, and Tom Brady, who led New England on its winning drive, was 32-of-48 for 354 yards and three touchdowns. The 32 completions were also a Super Bowl record. Tom Brady was voted the game's MVP for the second time in three seasons, although he did throw a second-half interception that prevented New England from winning more easily. Before the game, played in the city that is home to the nation's space program, there was a tribute to NASA and the crew of the shuttle Columbia, which broke up over Texas exactly one year ago. And before the second-half kickoff, Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson's top, exposing her breast during the halftime show, and a streaker was tackled on the field.

Super Bowl XXXVIII 2005 New England Patriots, 24 vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 21
Patriots reign again with 24-21 victory, JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2005) Dynasty? Definitely. The New England Patriots don't have to proclaim greatness. The NFL record book does it for them. The Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years -- 24-21 against the Philadelphia Eagles -- and now they are challenging history. With MVP Deion Branch tying a Super Bowl record for receptions with 11, QB Tom Brady efficiently running the offense and DB Rodney Harrison sparking a smothering defense, the Patriots (17-2) didn't need a last-second field goal from Adam Vinatieri this time.
