Tailgating Photos 2001:

The Death of All-Pro tackle Korey Stringer in summer camp, set the tone for the entire season as the Vikes posted a 5-11 record. Dennis "The Sherriff" Green stepped down as the head coach and was replaced by "Iron" Mike Tice. The Vikings played only 2 good games all season, and were the first team that 0-13 Detroit beat to break their losing streak.

Not Much to write about the 2001 Vikings Season other to note that it sucked. The team was in complete disarray right from the beginning of the season with the death of All-Pro Tackle Korey Stringer. I still can't believe that happened, truly the darkest day in Vikings history.

The team never recovered, and the season was nothing but a time to cope. We tried our best to enjoy the 2001 season, but like our team on the field, we suffered huge pain. Tailgating in the lots wasn't much fun this year with the 9-1-1 bombings at the World Trade Center and the lackadiasical performance of the team. Following is a synopsis of the 2001 Vikings Tailgating in review- some good times, and some not so good times!

Another draft party at Stier and Rocky's to kickoff the '01 season. The Vikings selected Michael Bennett to replace the retired Robert Smith. "Looks like Dennis is looking out for Offense again!"

The first kick off of the '01 season, the Vikes fans were all jacked up after a 4-0 pre-season and confidence was high as the Metrodome crowd raucously cheered in anticipation of Mitch Berger's opening kick. Within 10 seconds, Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers was prancing around in the end zone and the dome was quiet for the rest of the day. Nice omen to start the year.

The Berserkers being featured in a series of interviews with Minnesota Vikings Monthly Magazine and being told that we would be their cover story on the website that would debute in December. Guess what? We never saw it. False pretenses again. CC Gal, Mook, Saueey and Face Paint Chick hooking up in New Orleans for a kick ass time on Bourbon Street. We watched the Vikes lose to the Saints on the same day that the US commenced bombing on Afghanistan.

The Road Dates back from New Orleans- did they or did they not exist?

During the pregame tailgate for the game with the Windy City Bears, our goalposts caught a gust of wind and crashed to the earth, shattering flourescent yellow PVC pipe all over Washington Avenue. The goalposts that had been with us for years, and had travelled with us to Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City and New Orleans were destroyed.

Rebuilding the goal posts! Saueey and Mook, along with help from Mrs. Mook and Saueey's kids, built bigger stronger and LOUDER goalposts. Generation NeXt!

Kicking the Packers ass

Kicking the Giants ass on Monday Night Football

Korey Stringer and Mick Tinglehoff's jerseys were retired in two separate ceremonies during the year. The Vikes Ring of Fame is growing.

Cheering for Randy Moss and wearing the #84 jersey when every one else in the stadium was booing him for making some comments to the press that may or may not have been intentional. Fans booed Moss, but he won them over again late in the game scoring 3 TD's against the Giants on Monday Night Football.

Little Buddy's victory dance.

Parents Night with Notre Dame Dan's folks stopping by for the Packers game Tailgate and showing us how to party!

Baooh, Mrs. Baooh and Mini-Baooh stopping by and hanging with us every time they flew in for a Vikings home game. They are truly the best long distance Vikes ever, coming all the way from LA for that many games every year.

A kick butt down home tailgating extravaganza at Mook's house for the Lion's first win of the year. Vikings Record for House Parties at Mook's: 0-5 (includes 41-0 loss to Giants, 40-29 loss to Rams, 41-14 loss to Bucs, as well as a 24-21 loss to Detroit and a 24-17 loss to Tampa). Can you say, "It's time to move!"

Dennis Green taking the high road on the first bus out of town after being fired by Red McCombs. Get this, many of us some him parked outside of Old Chicago in Eagan's Town Center just an hour after press conference! He was on his cell phone making calls. "Hey, we must be on the High Road, too!"
